It won't be any fun going everywhere in reverse. The news is not good where Renaults are concerned I am afraid. Here is some info from here on SBO. Maybe you can get the manual and repair. But I think parts are out of the question. Or maybe you can find a replacement tranny. Good luck.

Try a reputable automotive transmission shop - they may be able to recommend a machine shop that can "re-manufacture" some of your transmission parts. Not familiar with your transmission but I'll bet there is wear on the clutch plates (if it has them) or the clutch cones (if that is what it uses) that is preventing engaging forward. As a long shot, try eBay, filter for location "France" and try autoparts.

oh, the dreaded Renault "reversing gear"

Not sure if you have checked but did you try disconnecting the cabling and manually shifting into forward at the transmission? Not a fun thing to try since there are a lot of moving parts and no room.
Also, there's an adjustment at the shift lever on the transmission, you loosen all three bolts slightly (see attached picture, arrows are pointing to two of the three bolts, the last is on the bottom) then pivot the whole plate slightly in one direction or other to adjust. I can't remember exactly but I think it is in the same direction that the arm travels that is needed for adjustment. It may take a few tries but it should help. The other picture is of the gears with the cones inside, it is the brass colored area marked by the arrow.
One last thing, did you check to see if the flange or shaft is spinning when in forward?

Delightfull RC8D

Hi Manny, see you went to town on your gearbox. I decided to "embrace" that little diesel and bring it back to factory specs. I had local machine shop rework head which included valve seats installed with new maching valves and surface grinding to make true. I need to measure "freespace" and order head gasket and a few other minor things and I should be good. I have replaced starter with new geared type and alternater with of the shelf Delco high output that I switch on as needed. Next is 3 bladed prop as listed in post and I shoud be good. How did you make out with internal bracing for your outboard? I see no need to replace motor unless more power is needed for local conditions or cost of doing so is a non-issue. Cheers Frank

I took the trans apart a while back to replace the seals, still leaks just the same  I did reinforce the transom a bit more but no more bracing. Seems to be holding just fine, as a matter of fact I got nailed with 5+ foot wave on that stern quarter on Monday, put the boat on it's ear, pivoted the heck out of the outboard but no issues with the mounting.
