I plan to istall a wind instrument mainly to save my neck from constantly having to look up the mast for the wind direction. I have read some negative comments about the ST-60 wind at the sailnet.com site. I am interested in hearing from others who have the ST-60 or recommend something else like the standard horizon wind instrument. I don't do much racing, but I would like the luxury of having the wind direction and speed in front of me. Thnks, Lee S/V Calaloo

ST-60 Wind

We had trouble with the first one right out of the box. Replaced both ends and it has worked pretty well since. It does seem to get a little off sometimes. If you do a couple 360 degree turns under it, then back to normal. Overall we are pretty happy with it. Now, if we could just figure out a way to keep the speed transducer clean enough to work. ST-60 WIND

Last year I installed a ST-60 for the same reason and I love it. No problems, easy to calibrate and my neck went back to normal.

If you tie some knitting yarn to your side stays it wil give you a cheap wind indicator. It is not as accurate as the wind vane at the top of mast but relative to the wind it works. I also use old tape ribbon from a cassette tape also.
