Just learning to sail and having problems with my ST3000. After each use I have been disconnecting the unit and storing it below. Seems like it never will hold a heading. I go through the calibration and it works OK. Unhook, store below, then the next time I use it same problem. Question came to mind, do you lose all calibration when you disconnect? Are you supposed to keep powered up in standby mode? Have looked through the manuel but can't find anything. Gene

Question

I just need a reply from someone who has a ST3000. Do you keep it plugged in? I realize I can always call Raytheon.

Nope

Gene We just purchased our ST3000 a few months ago to replace our old 3000. I did NOT want a 4000 given all the calibration problems with it and new wiring required to the binnacle, where I did NOT want the unit. Once calibrated it has worked fine. The only thing I have had to do is play with the calibration setting for rudder gain. ALL of the time, both sailing and motoring, it's been just fine. In fact, I went back to the regular default settings and have had no problems (i.e., no wandering or S tracks). Only thing I can think of for you is to assure that you have good voltage at the plug. If the LCD works, you should be OK. Other than that, I think this answers your question. Stu

Stu??

Stu, Appreciate your reply. It's good to hear from someone who actually has experience. Hate to belabor the issue but my main question is do you keep power on the unit at all times (standby) or do you shut it down when not in use?
