If you are considering a Raytheon ST1000 or other tillerpilot for your H23, you may want to read this, and add two rod extensions (3-inch and 4-inch) to your order. If you follow the directions in the manual, you will end up drilling the hole for the brass mounting bushing in the starboard seat over the fuel tank. Rather than doing this (the hinges on this flip-up seat are none too sturdy), I installed the bushing in the top of the starboard cockpit coaming instead.Although the fiberglass there is still not as thick as Raytheon recommends, the shape of the coaming makes it plenty rigid, so a backing plate is unnecessary. If you are really serious, you can worm your way in under the coaming from the cockpit locker on the port side and reinforce the underside with epoxy and fiberglass (I didn't). Mounting the pilot on the coaming places it above the seat cushions, and it is only slightly above the top of the tiller. The only problem now is that the actuating rod will be about 7 inches too short (hence the need for extensions).I found this out the hard way...my new pilot is installed and ready to go, but I can't use it because the extensions won't be here till Friday.BTW, the upper inboard corner of the fuel tank locker is a protected yet easily accessible place to put the socket for the electrical connector.PeterS/V Raven
