I have recently purchased a Raytheon RL70 CRC Plus Radar/chartplotter and I'm having some difficulty with where and how to mount the screen. The Hunter pedestal guard is too narrow and there is no room where the other instruments are located. The only other location is the top of the pedestal where there is a hand hold now. I could move it, but I'm afraid it will place it too far away for my 58 year old eyes. Any suggestions and or photos would be appreciated. Boat is a 2002 380.

Here is a link. Look in Instrument mountings and Platforms. There are many which will help you find a good application. Rick D.

My temporary solution is permanent

For my h40.5, I made a mount that was originally a temporary solution. At the time (4 years ago) Edson didn't make a fiberglas custom housing for the Raytheon RL-series display heads, and the only one available was a large aluminum housing. It was large and very expensive IMO. $300-400 before I was done with all the fittings and stuff. So I made a bracket that clamps to my pedistal guard. The bracket has a rubber insert that grips the tubing and if loosened will slide up and down and rotate to any position that I like. I found this feature to be valuable over a fixed mount. I can adjust the angle of the screen to eliminate glare from the sun, and I do this many times in a day. The mount was made from sheets of 1/4" plexiglas sandwiched together. Total cost was about $6-7 plus misc stuff I had in my shop. I sprayed the mount with flat black paint and used the standard U-bracket that was supplied with the display. This was meant to be temporary until I could find a more 'suitable' solution. I like it so much, I've stopped looking. See the attached photo. Rich

rl70 mounting

look at the navpod line (wm caries them) they make a pod for the rl70 that mounts on the edson guard-I've got a similar one on my 356 and it works great
