Following my earlier post, I also got the above which has a rather heavy 24" radome. I am wondering if such a large unit is suitable for my 31? I would have liked to have traded this set up for something smaller but because of the age of the unit, have not found anyone willing to barter.

I don't know how heavy heavy is, but, especially if you pole-mount it, there should be no problem and you will have the benefit of sharper resolution.

About the only place I would mount a radome is on the mast. I don't really like the cluttered feeling of having a number of things mounted aft, BBQ, GPS antenna, etc. I took a look around the marina and do not recall seeing a 24" radome on a boat as small as mine.
