OK, so I hate to throw anything away! I've just resurected an old Ratheon Model 520 Loran. It seems to be working well confirmed by the Lat/Long readouts I get. My problem is that I can't get beyond that bit of information because I don't have a users manual. If anyone has one I'd love a copy, or information as to where I might locate one, or an abreviated set of instructions to do things like enter/delete way points etc. John Rich

Way[points are overrated anyhow

My boat still has the Loran too, but in HI they transmitter stations don't function anymore. I Understand, however that on the CA coast, Loran is still alive and well, mainly becuase the fisherman like it. I would contact the makers via their website (that is bound to give a phone number) but in any case, I only used waymoints once (on approach to HI at night). Most of the time just use the Lat/Long and a chart. Part of the fun is comparing with GPS, sitings from shore, Radar etc to see how they all come together. Something I've always wanted to practice is dead reckoning. However it could'nt have been that accurate otherwise my father's ship would not have run into a remove Pacific Island in the night in the 1030's! Have fun. I can't throw anything out either - anybody got some old Autohelm 3000 pieces? Regards Jim W

Want an RDF?

I have an RDF, brand new in box. Bought it on Boat US auction couple of years ago. I have absolutely no use or need for it and would be delighted to find it a new home. Re: Loran. I still have only Loran, no GPS. But over the last copule of weeks, GR9960 has become completely unreliable in the New York area with sometimes no signal at all. I thought it was the instrument but it's not.
