520

I have a 620 in the cockpit and a 520 at the nav station on our 42. If I had just one, it would be the 620. I can display a bunch of data boxes and still have room for a large chart display. It does not have the HSB though.

Raytheon 520

I can't comment on the 620, but if I had it to do over again I would not buy the 520. I bought it with the idea of using it for my chartplotter needs and later upgrading to radar as well. As a chartplotter, it sucks to put it bluntly. Compared to my old Garmin 210, it is not even in the same class in terms of user friendliness. To name a few of my complaints: The keystrokes and functional threads are not intuitive and the C-Map chart support in my part of the Bahamas is weak. (Garmin's G Chart was much better.) The 520 is also weak in the area of setting up routes and displaying and using waypoints. Although I like to view things "heads up" it doesn't remember that when powered off and always initializes in "North up", which means you have to go back into the chart setup and change it back every time, which is a pain in the rear. I like the "SeaTalk" aspect but in my opinion it's not worth the aggravation of the 520. There may be other, better multifunction displays out there but I would avoid the 520.
