Raymarine X-5 autohelm install

Aloha,

I have done some data mining regarding this topic but I have not found any photos regarding it.

I recently received an X-5 from Raymarine and I am looking at installing it on my Hunter 29.5.

I found some threads discussing how to and one in particular that had some photos of the install. I contacted one of the folks but he no longer had the photos. If someone has done the install, I would love some pics to help.

I hear that the install for a 290 and 310 are somewhat similar.

My biggest concern is the hole I need to drill in the pedestal for the motor. I think I know where and how I will install the compass and course computer.

Your concern about a mounting hole in your pedestal for your motor puzzles me. On the Raymarine wheel assemblies I'm familiar with, the motor hangs to the side of the ped (see pic attached).

I have an S-1, predecessor to the X-5, (the X-5 no longer needs the rudder sensor). I have a number of pics of my installation if you need some reference shots. Attached are a couple of shots of the control head location and computer mounting I created to make the installation easier for me.

Dan, I believe the 29.5 like the 280 has a larger Dalek like pedestal that comprises a small cabby hole in center with removable tray.

Thanks for the cross-reference. It must have pedestal like the big boys have! That could be an ugly install project.

PS: went onto the 29.5 photo gallery and first boat I see has that big pedestal with a wheel pilot ring visible on the wheel, which appears to be flat up against the ped's aft face. Ugh! If you center the motor, where do you put the peg to keep the stationary ring in place? A good set of pics of an installation would surely help Troy!

I have a 29.5 with autohelm st4000+ autopilot. I do not know how similar the auto pilot in question is, but I'll post the external pictures of mine for what it is worth. I will not be able to get back to my boat for a week or two but could take more images. If it would be helpful give me a yell.
