Update Raymarine comes through!!!!

This is an update to a posting I placed on ask all sailors about a problem securing a part for an ST 80 wind instrument. I am also posting it as new as well to be sure Raymarine gets a fair accounting from me. Well I was quick to bitch when I got the run around from Raymarine so I will be just a quick to tell you that they have come through like a first class company should! I had been working with Hunter on this issue as it was a boat I purchased from them less than a year ago. They were equally surprised (milder response that they had) that this was the situatition! Well it turns out it isn't. After they talked to the national sales guy he got back to me and explained that Raymarine is planning and prepared to support this system for the next 5 years - which is what I would have thought. They have a work around but they also have the part! Huh? Seems that they have the part but it is kept to be used for warranty work or situations like mine - not as an item listed in their sales inventory. Seems it was a matter of comunication and when I got to the right person they couldn't have been more cooperative and nice to work with. Frankly, that is what I had expected when this first started. I am glad this is how things turned out as I hate to see a problem with a good company and the lack of support that I was being told wasn't in keeping with a first class operation. Five years of support on this type of item is in keeping with what would be expected. So, Raymarine is back on my supplier list and I hope anyone who has followed this will read this latest thread. I will post it as new to be sure I give them the credit they deserve. End of story with a happy ending! PS Hunter has been superb with this issue and any others I have had! Ed

...I have always had great service from Autohelm/Raytheon/Raymarine, so I was a bit surprised. Glad it worked out. I do have to confess that a five year support seems a bit short to me still, considering the bucks you lay out for a system. I'm sure its no different than anyone else and only represents a minimum. Still, look how hard Hunter works to support older models despite their frequent model updates. Same for Catalina. Rick D.
