Recently motoring into Delaware Bay the autopilot quit. It was working perfectly for the previous 10 days from Lake Ontario to Cape May. Hit the Auto button, nothing. However now there is a message on the screen "Calibration Req'd"
Is this something an owner can do or must I get a tech to do it?

What do you mean by quit? Dropped out of steering, won't hold course, respond to remote or buttons....?

Check for power to all pieces, then go to your manual for the "calibration" procedure...it is pretty straight forward - do some circles one direction, then the other, then a figure eight and the computer will be just fine.

All that being said, the pilot should work even if not properly calibrated...just may not be as finely tuned or smooth as you would like. If the pilot is in fact not working, then you will need to do some trouble shooting (power, connectivity, what IS working, what isn't, flux gate/compass, etc)

In my experience, you are almost better to contact the factory, as the tech will just do what I have described above and then declare that part A is defective, and will need to be ordered, and give you a bill of many $$.....which you can do in conjunction with their tech support.

Hope this helps get you started.

You can do calibration too if needed. Manuals from Raymarine that came with my system gave detailed instructions and were easy to follow.
If you don't have manuals, I've found Raymarine help line and web site to be very helpful and responsive

Our Raymarine GPS quit working a couple of months ago. I contacted Raymarine via email and got the instruction on a factory reset. It has been work fine ever since. I would give them a call or drop them an email to see if they have a quick fix.

Be sure that you have you waypoints backed up if you do a reset.

Check those itsy bitsy spade connectors where the flux gate compass hooks to the computer part.. sounds like bad or intermittent connection
