My 8 year old Raymarine ST60 wind meter "speed sensor" stopped spinning and registering wind speed after a 50+ mpg rain storm last weekend. Wind direction indicator still works though. I plan to call Raymarine and Micrio Associates on Monday but thought this forum might propose the fix before I consult with them and climb the mast.

Can I service the wind sensor or do I have to replace it. If I have to replace it can this be done at the top of the mast?

I believe that you can service it but not at the top of the mast.

Raymarine sells a kit that includes bearings and I think seals too. I am not sure which wind tranducers the kit will repair; you will have to check. I have seen this kit on eBay in the UK for about $65.

Perhaps the cup assembly simply blew off and you just need to replace the cups. You didn't say if the cup were still attached in your original post. The cup and wane are available as a kit for about $22, and I have bought that kit myself for the ST50 wind transducer. Again, I am not sure about the ST60 model- you need to check.

If the cup assembly is just missing, I'm sure you can replace it at the top of the mast- It just uses a set-screw to attach to the shaft.

Obviously something is preventing the mast head "cup" sensor from spinning.

Having had both wind speed and wind direction components stop working a one time or another w/ my own ST-60, I believe that you will almost certainly have to go to the top of the mast and bring the unit down to determine why the "cups" won't turn. ( The "wand" holding the sensors is designed so that it easily unscrews from it's mast head mounting bracket).
The repair may be as simple as debris lodged at the edge of the cup preventing it from spinning, to the sensor itself has been damaged.

I was able to have my unit repaired by a local electronics repair shop FAR more reasonably than the cost of replacing it.

Damn birds did mine in broke the feather and one the cups off did it twice ...cus.@$):)/($&$)!!!!!....Order the mast head kit.....Was only about 25 bucks at the time for me... Then send someone up and bring the wand head unit down. Not hard to remove. Then you can sit down in the cockpit and check it over. Having the kit handy will be good so you can replace what is needed. Then back up the mast and reinstall.
