I have the 300 series trip computer and the ST7000+ head unit for my autopilot and I have been unsuccessfully trying to integrate the two. If I connect the new E7D via the optional nema bridge- the autopilot goes crazy and cannot be calibrated - as soon as I disconnect the nema bridge- autopilot is fine again and calibratable- has anyone had a similar experience , or more importantyly - has any one succeeded with this project!?

They are best integrated via the Seatalk network. The e7D is Seatalk ng and the ST7000+ is Seatalk... You need a Seatalk ng to Seatalk converter kit # E22158..
thanks Maine Sail- sorry i didn't make clear, but that is exactly what i have installed, BUT, as soon as we connected the link cable to the ST7000+ the autopilot goes off- keeps drifting 1 degree every few seconds to starboard and will not calibrate- no matter how many circles you do- but as soon as we disconnected the NEMA bridge link to ST7000+- all back to working except, no interface with the E7D;
We are talking different languages. The part number I gave you is not for NMEA data it is Raymarines proprietary Seatalk 1 to Seatalk ng converter. Can you get some pics of the actual plugs and the course computer wiring?
here is a picture to show the instrument set- with autopilot bridge cable disconnected. As soon as I plug in the bridge cable to the autopilot , autopilot comes onto E7D screen BUT you cant calibrate the autopilot- no matter how many turns or how long you wait- also if you now select auto , the course will drift to either port or stbd- depending upon which correction direction was last selected by about 1 degree every 30 or so seconds. My marine elec. said it is simply a case of new not wanting to talk to old?? but raymarine say this shouldn't be a problem??

Isolate the Seatalk ng to Seatalk 1 cable to ONLY feed the AP head. Remove all other Seatalk connections from the AP. I see some real sketchy SeaTalk1 splices. If it works the issue is likely in your SeaTalk 1 bus...
the marine elec did in fact try this last week- but no good- He said he thinks the type 300 computer maybe too old to talk to the new E7D??
I have my Raymarine a98 recently SeaTalk connected by the Raymarine dealer to my ST7000. I had drift and over corrections in the Auto or Track mode. To fix per Raymarine dealer...
1) Calibrate your electronic compass ( set mine to Magnetic and finally got my Richie and ST7000 matching).
2) Calibrate your ST7000 control per manual.
3) Then retry
Marine Sail may correct this, but I remember there is a "sensitivity" adjustment in the ST7000 calibration. My guess it was to adjust for your particular boat's rudder size and characteristics.
I am going to desensitize mine, since in a recent storm, the rudder would be partially come out of the water and the Autopilot would over correct.
