RayMarine GPS Head Parts?

Anyone have an old RayMarine GPS Head that does not work, that they would like to let me have? RayMarine-RayStar 125

I need the plate that has the 5-pin interconnect. Somehow, between the survey, and when I took possession, someone twisted the connector, and broke all the pins. The unit is good, but pins are sheared off.


Also... I found a USB cable in my nav station that connects to a DB-9, and leads somewhere in the boat. ALso, I found a ton of MapTech CDs. The boat has a RayMarine GPS/Radar. Is this a PC connection for the GPS???

Busted pins

You can probably find a replacement plug on the internet. Most are standard sizes or try radio shack. Just take the back off and unsolder/resolder AFTER writing down the pinout to solderout map

As for the USB cable, who knows. Would it go to the back of the GPS?

I have been trying to find the connector. It is a 5-pin DIN, but finding one in Augusta GA will be very hard, if not impossible. RadioShack had nothing even close, but they have cut back their stock of parts over the past 10-20 years.

I was thinking of putting unit with old connector in a small vice, and drilling out the old broken pins, then taking a piece of music wire that is same diameter of old pins. And epoxying in new ones. Then tin them with solder to help corrosion.

Kind of a bunch of work, but the unit is fine, except for pins being broke. I refuse to pay 350-400 bucks for something I can fix myself. ....

BUT, if anyone has a unit that is not working, I'll buy it for the bottom plate.

Try digikey.com. Every kind of plug and socket you could want.
On a different note you could just get a socket (gps unit part) with the right size hole and the correct number of pins and the matching plug (cable part) and rewire the whole thing. I don't think there is going to be any issue with having a different pin configuration as long as you connect everything up right.
Is the socket directly attached to the circuit board or does it have wires from the socket to the circuit board?

Raymarine has a really good helpline, especially the on-line "Ask Raymarine" function on their website. I've used it a couple of times and they have been fantastic about helping me through a couple of issues that I had with my new boat. Try them, as they should be able to tell you where to get the part.

Most of the autohelm / raymarine plugs are made by conxall. Post a pic and dimensions and I may have one.
