Purchased one of these along with radar end of Feb. Finally got it installed. Worked fine. Notice past tense. Yesterday, I performed the software update to ver 3.15 to the letter and per verbal instructions from Raymarine. Worked fine last night. Powered up today to input date/time etc etc. It slowly just quit working to the point that I had to do factory resets just to change modes. And, we're leaving in a few days....After my blood pressure subsided and my wife would talk to me again, I headed up to the local West Marine where I bought it. Those guys are to the point where they hide when I come through the door but they were great. I told them I'm leaving and I bought it months ago and just installed it. They told me to go get it and, fortunately, had one in stock that they traded me for. Kudos to Anacortes West Marine. The original one also had cables that didn't even physically fit any connector on the back. Had to "order" the proper cable. The West Marine guy ordered cables from several retailers on his own credit card to help me out. (out of stock).....Finally got cables and I'll tell ya... If I didn't have a radar half way up the mast, I'd gather all this crap up and buy an airplane ticket to wherever Raymarine is and put this stuff "somewhere"....If you have an e7D, I would not recommend updating the software. Leave it at ver 1.11. In fact, I'd recommend going somewhere else....

After multiple e-mails to Raymarine and opening up a "incident ticket", I have yet to hear back from them and this was over 2 months ago. Have to believe they have one of the worst customer service depts ever! I know I will not purchase another of there products again. Buyer Beware

This looks like a Raymarine bit$# session, so I'll add mine :)

New X-5 wheel pilot with P70 combo. P70 manual CLEARLY states in text and illustrations that the 12v power is supplied by the X-5 via the Seatalk ng network. There is contradicting text in the X-5 manual, but that one also includes setup for the old controller and Seatalk, so I figured the P70 version of the install instructions were the newer version. Fought with trying to get it to power up for hours, then posted the q on the Raymarine forum. They edited my post regarding the hideous instruction manuals, but provided the correct connection info, for which I was grateful. You have to connect 12V to the network, it's not supplied by the X-5 as stated in the P70 manual.

The unit still has an issue where the - or + 1 and 10 degree buttons will turn the boat in the wrong direction when in "standby", but work correctly when in "auto" mode. Nobody has answered my "incident ticket" for 2 weeks.

Last: the overal quality of the X-5 computer, P70 controller, and the wheel attachment is mediocre at best, and approaching Chinese junk at worst. It is made in China. They paint the wheel hardware a metalic color to fool you, but it's all plastic.

I didn't know the stuff was made in China when I ordered it. I'll definately be looking elsewhere for other gear.

West Marine now has Raymarine plastered everywhere in the store, totally dominating the displays.
