Has anyone put a Raymarine ST 40 Depth instrument (or ST40bidata-depth+speed) in their 260. I found someone who'd done it by putting a "shoot thru the hull" transducer ( no need to drill hole in hull) next to his bilge pump. I look on the raymarine site, and download the manual, the only transducer seems to be a through hull. Also, there is the bidata version, and seems to be an instrument the hangs off the back, but the owners manual mentions nothing of it.... Puzzled......anyone done this?

I Shot Thru The Hull

I used a "Hummingbird" fish finder ($100) which came with a transducer that you could hang off the transom or shoot thru the hull. The instructions called for an epoxy to be used, with no air bubbles, if you were going to shoot thru the hull. I was concerned that the epoxy would be permanent so, instead, I used silicone, squeezed out of the tube very carefully, so I would not get air bubbles. It worked fine. Why don't you try to mount your transducer with silicone. If it works great, if not, try something else. Regards, Captain Bob Fliegel, S/V JoySea

Same transducer

I used the thru-hull transducer and mounted inside the hull. As mentioned there are several ways to do this. The main thing is not to have any air bubbles or voids between the face of the transducer, the medium that it is in, and the hull. I installed a "cup" fiberglassed in place and filled with mineral oil. The transducer is then dropped in and secured in place. the advantage of the oil cup method is that you are guaranteed not to have air bubbles between the surfaces, and you can remove the transducer anytime you want, but it is more involved than mounting it with epoxy or silicone.

Got any pics?

you leave the mineral oil in there until after the transducer is installed? How accurate has it been for you after you installed it?

Transducer for H26/260

I've installed the "In-Hull" transducer in my H260 next to the bilge pump. I contacted Raymarine and they told me to get the AIRMAR P79. I have had no problem. After installation you add mineral oil. Works like a charm: See the pics and more data at this link: http://kobernus.com/hunter260/depth/depth.html

Transducer Location

George - thank you for the fine response and pics of the depth transducer(and bilge). However I can't orient myself to which compartment you installed these - can you clarify? As a new H260 owner I have a few other questions I would like to run by you. You can email me direct - hotel zero two tango five three @telus.net Thanks,

st60 transducers

So, you just used the stock transducers that came from Raymarine? Is there any risk to the transducers getting beat up when putting on or off the trailer?
