I also own a 2005 Hunter 36. When I purchased the boat 8 years ago it had the original C80 mfd. I had to update my C80 mfd to download the navionics for Georgian bay. I purchased the new card and cable to connect the card to my desktop the download was successful. This past year I upgraded the Raymarine C80 chart plotter, the autopilot with the new Raymarine equipment. All of the original equipment is in my basement collecting dust if you would be interested in it.

Thanks everyone.

Got the software upgrade on the C80 chart plotter figured out.

For the chart upgrade, Navionics told me that I'm unable to renew and load the updated charts on my current CompactFlash card (128MB and marked as follows: Navionics 1G901XL23 East Great Lakes Dec 2004)

They said that I would need to buy an updated CF card and use my current card to activate the new card. I think they said the new card would be 2GB.

Does anyone know if:
  1. My circa 2005 era Raymarine C80 will be able to work with the 2GB card?
  2. Is there anything else I haven’t thought of that may prevent this from going smoothly

1. Yes should not be a problem. When you go to the Navionics site and chose the chart area, just select Georigan Bay or slightly larger if you're heading to the North Channel. You can always update later if you head further afield.
2. Too much beer.

I found with my old 435 that it would take too long to load when zooming in and out. There's a ton of info in GB and lots of detail when you zoom in. I'm assuming the processor is better in the C80, but you're still using 17 year old technology.

Well, I checked the chart plotter before I started the upgrade to make sure it worked with the old chart card and before the upgrade. Worked great.

Borrowed the sw upgrade card from Bayport (Raymarine Dealer). Plugged the card in and instead of the upgrade screen I just got a white screen that flashed a couple of times and then went dark.

I took out the upgrade card and got the C80 welcome screen that stayed on for about 30 seconds, then went dark, then just cycles on and off to that state forever. So won't boot.

Anyone have any ideas what's next (besides pitching it in the Bay and buying new electronics) :)

Did you follow instructions and scrolled to & selected “remove card” before removing the card from the slot? If you simply removed card, you may have messed up the programming.

What version or update did they give you. There are very specific updates for C80 Classic. I would check with them and make sure they gave you the correct one and have them contact Raymarine.

Great news!

First, the chart plotter seems to have come back alive after i did a factory reset.

The issue seems to have been with Bayport's upgrade card. I ordered a new software upgrade card from Radar Marine:

Followed the instructions and it seamlessly upgraded from v1.21 to v5.16.

Plugged in the 2GB card with the updated charts and it read the card fine, but ..... super slow response time. I had been prepared for this from reading other posts, and had only downloaded Georgian Bay and North Channel charts, but still seemed super slow. I'm going to do a bit more research ... maybe i've got some incorrect settings and have radar overlays on or something (and I don't have radar!)

In the meantime i put the original 128MB card with charts in and it seems to work fine while I figure out the 2GB card speed issue.
