Hi. Now that we're up on Georgian Bay it just occurred to me that I'm not sure if the current memory card with Lake Ontario charts also includes Georgian Bay. Does anyone know if it does? If not, how do I upgrade this. Do I just buy another card or is it more involved than that?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks! I’m guessing navionics is a 3rd party chart provider? An alternative to going to Raymarine?

I've been trying to upgrade my understanding of cartography options and it can be daunting. OP needs to be more specific about what Raymarine unit he is using.
New Raymarine units have several options. I think you can but a card from them and download your own charts on it from their website. Or you can buy pre-loaded cards. As area of coverage I would check on their website.
The Axiom line can use the proprietary Lighthouse cartography but those are not all backwards compatible so you have to pay attention to the versions. And they can use C-Map "Essentials", and Navionics such as Navionics NA +. You can find that coverage on the Navionics website.
Or something like that. I will be checking the websites suggested by sail sfbay.

Thanks Shemandr. I will have to get that info next time I'm up at the boat, which is shrink wrapped right now :). It's the original chartplotter from 2005, so will need to get the model number and check the card. Should've done this before asking the question on here. But learning lots, so thank you everyone for the helpful advice and feedback.

Not sure if you’re going to be able to buy a card for a specific area, unless you buy a used card on EBay, because the unit is obsolete & no longer supported by Raymarine. I upgraded the firmware & charts on my C80 a few years ago. The last C80 update available is now many years old now. First, you will have to update the MFD to the last update available free from Raymarine. Then you will have to purchase a map update from Navionics and select the regions that you need. The limiting factor is the limited card size that the C80 can handle. The last hurdle, at least when I updated, is that you need a navionics card reader to download the map data onto the compact flash card. Might try searching, cause I believe there are a few outlets that will do the download for you and charge accordingly. Definitely a cumbersome process.

After reading those links I've realized it's much more complicated than I thought. But I'm a KISS type guy. Others may revel in that environment.

Believe me, I am too! Took lots of time & research to work thru the process. When I originally purchase the boat from previous owner, I was lucky to find a used card for my region on EBay. Was very simple to swap out cards. Unfortunately, firmware update & map update not so easy.

The more I dig into it the better the dealer looks.
Or go with the Navionics app. When we brought a boat down to Florida that's what we used because the fancy MFD's didn't work (I estimate 5 to 7 K's worth). Now, I'm beginning to see why. I do like things simple because that's what I am.

Most likely Navionics charts and you can go the Navionics site and either renew to update the charts or buy a new card if your existing is too small. You pug the card into your computer and go through the web site to update your charts.

Your existing card also most likely has Georgian Bay already on it, mine did, but being that old you will want to update anyways. I did my old R435 charplotter a few times for Georgian Bay and now the new Axiom 7.

NP. Bayport would most likely have put in a zipper door in the shrinkwrap at the stern if you want to go up over the winter sometime. Maybe check with them to confirm.

Yes I was a up there last weekend and there is a door! Just didn't think of the chart issue until I got back home.
