I have a Raytheon RC520 chartplotter running software v6.05. I had a 112LP seatalk GPS which recently failed and I replaced it with a seatalk 120. With the original configuration I was succesfully using a C-Map NT+ card, but after installing the 120, the chartplotter cannot get past it's boot routine when the NT+ card is installed. If I take the NT+ card out of the chartplotter the plotter comes up and correctly reports gps position. Any ideas that don't include a $1,000 equipmant upgrade

you may not need a $1000 upgrade, but you may need a software upgrade to make the nt+ /520/120 combo work correctly

Raymarine / C- Map

One answer form Raymarine tech support sais I have to send the unit in for an upgrade ($800) another gave me a part # for a software upgrade. I've sent an email to get clarification.

raymarine software upgrades

It might be the same situation as I've got with my RL70s: the upgrade software is available on a cartridge you can simply put in the system and load, or you can send the box back for a new board-the $800 upgrade may include more than the needed software (on the rl-70 it gets you the "plus" features)

Software Upgrade

The written answer from Raymarine is that the software upgrade will not address the incompatiblity with NT+. My 5 year old system is HSB and the software allows HSB to communicate over Seatalk with HSB2. So here is the REAL rub. I can upgrade my old monochrome display for $800. If I choose instead to buy the new "C" or "E'" series then I get to throw away my C-Map cards because RayMarine has moved to Navionics. I feel that I'm in a Catch-22 never never land. The rest of my system is SeaTalk, ie autopilot, etc so to keep full functionality I need to stay with RayMarine and spend money for a new chartplotter and new electronic charts.

one last thing to try

That's weird! Stan, it may be stupid, but have you tried booting the system without the nt+ card, and then installing the card?

Tried It

Yes, I shut everything down and booted the system without the NT+ card. The Chartplotter and GPS work perfectly. The minute I put the card in and try to change the range the system freezes. I may have a solution. I can still get NT formated cards from C-Map. The charts are uptodate but have less information than the new NT+ which is no problem.
