Has anyone installed an Axiom + and connected it to their 3gm30f ?
thanks Floyd

connected it to what? there are no electronic sensors on a 3gm30 - I suppose you could connect to the alternator and measure voltage/current but that's about it. the tach, oil pressure and engine temp senders aren't designed for remote monitors, and the fuel system is all mechanical.

There are engine interface devices available for that purpose.

that wasn't my point - he would have to add the sensors, too. oil, temp are on/off warning switches only, fluid levels are step switches, the rudder position indicator, if he's got one, is the only thing that's an analog sensor

Yes you will have to buy additional sensors. I have tach feed coming off the altenater . I had to solder a wire to the stator. Oil pressure from 2nd hole next to the gauge sensor. Water temp tee's into coolant line. Also aded fuel sender. The stock gauges and sensors are still hooked up and working. Haven't done the battery sensors yet as they are expensive.

I even setup a bow cam.

You can setup the basics for under $200.

I think it’s great that you found a solution that works for you. But, this is a “roll your own” design, which is beyond a lot of folks capabilities.
For that reason, I’d reccomend going with Actisense, or MBW technologies. MBW designed a drop in replacement for the Teleflex i8305
By using these modules, you don’t need additional sensors, and it’s plug & play with your chart plotter.

Besides the converter, do you have a list of what someone would need to purchase to do this on their own 3GM30F?

I used the Norland RS11 interface based on a nice write up on the site, posted on 9/11/2020 by pa391as Hunter 34 Yanmar 3gmf Engine Data Project with Noland Engineering RS11. Noland was extremely helpful answering some of my dumb questions.

I can't upload the word document RS11 Data Project for some reason. I'll forward the document.

I just found an even better solution.
There is a very slick company Yacht Devices.
They make an interface compatible with STng, and they have the Yanmar interface harness. It’s about $250 plus the harness. Bargain

Have been thinking about this for awhile. Anyone installed this device? I have a wi-fi transmitter from Yacht Devices I plugged into my NMEA2000 network and it worked pretty well. Software support can be spotty, but its pretty neat. My Axiom can display all the engine info, so I'm thinking about finding someone who could install this and the upgraded dual sensors on the engine to enable it.

I have been looking at Noland Engineering’s RS11 interface and it looks like a good and fair priced solution for older engines. You simply connect to your existing analog sensors “Send” wire terminal at either the sender or the gauge. The existing gauges still function. A NMEA 2000 cable connects to your chart plotter. Be aware that you need to configure the interface with a pc to set the range of each gauge. Nolands product requires you to use the software and instructions that come with it to accomplish this task. Price is about $350. Looks good to me and I think I will buy one this Spring.

Don’t believe you need to add engine sensors.
You just tag into the existing ones.
You can confirm this with YD

The Yacht Devices engine interface will work if your engine already has multiplex instruments. They use an engine wiring harness tap to connect to their interface device. Looking over their offerings I did not find an interface that would accept analog instrument outputs and convert them to an input acceptable to a chart plotter. If you have an older engine with analog instruments then Noland Engineering’s product might be the way to go. Please keep in mind that I am basing this opinion on only reading the advertising information and not on personal experience with either product. Feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.

Or you can go the more DIY way and attach sensors to get some data directly from the engine and log it with an Arduino or Raspberry Pi. I've attached a couple temperature sensors to my thermostat housing and exhaust elbow, and tapped into the alternator tachometer wire to sense RPM's. All the data goes to a Raspberry Pi on the boat, and a Yacht Devices USB gateway puts that data on my NMEA network so I can see it on the chartplotter. Plus the Pi saves all the data and some dashboards visualize it. Here's the data from one morning of sailing and motoring for example:

David, can you provide more details? Not sure I fully understand exactly what is a Rasberry Pi.
