raymarine autopilot

I have a raymarine st6000 type 100 autopilot. The autopilot functions fine most of the time but intermittently (every few hours) reads and holds on 317dgs sometimes for one minute sometimes for twenty minutes. I already swapped the fluxgate, same problem. Next will be the course computer. Any suggestions?

Had similar problem

with the heading locking-- sent both the control head and the course computer to the shop-- problem was with the control head. RM no longer makes the 6000 but their suggestion, an ST 6001 solved the problem and was, obviously, compatible with the "old" course controller.
