My 2000 model works fine without a tiller bracket, on the original straight tiller. Despite the guidelines in the manual, I strongly suggest mounting the socket plate just aft of the stbd seat hatch, so the hatch can be opened without interfering with the autopilot.Nicholas Walsh

Agreed. I have recently altered Alkira to the socket arrangement Nicholas
suggests and it is to be recommended for the reason he suggests.

Hi All

The best idea I have seen for installing a tiller pilot (eg Raymarine 1000)
is to put the socket on teh starboard side just aft of the straboard locker
lid but in the correct place, then put two more sockets one each side of the
original (Outboard and inboard) to allow for stronger conditions. I know
this means drilling three holes but it ensures perfect positioning for all
weatheruseage.
