Link to the tech... Ha Ha! manual.
My issue is with the Auxiliary Control Unit. According to Raymarine it's too complicated for the owner to work on. I guess they've never screwed around with a Mk 11 missile launcher. Now that's an analog nightmare from 40 or 50 years ago. I'm guessing there's nothing but a switch and/or rheostat in there.Quote the tech manual:"The Autohelm 5000 has an advanced microelectronic circuit requiring special equipment and knowledge to service. In the unlikely event of failure occurring in any part of the system you are advised to contact your nearest appointed Service Agent who will provide you with competent and efficient service."Well, I applaud them on a system that has stood the test of time. I can hardly fault a piece of equipment that has operated exposed to the weather for 20 years in a salt water environment.I do want to try and fix it rather than replace it at this time. I have the Oscilloscope, multimeter and about any other test equipment I need, but I lack the talking dog, Mr. Peabody and the 'Wayback Machine' I require to contact the tech support I need. I’m still working on that.I have no doubt this will be an easy fix once things are broke open and I get a good look at what’s going on. A couple of my buddies are electrical engineers at DRS tactical systems in Melbourne Fl. But, I really like tech manuals and schematics before I start tearing something up. It’s just one of those, ‘The more you know before you jump in the better off you are.’I'm guessing somebody out there has seen one of these.
