I'm a proud new owner of a 1985 Catalina 30. Recently, I purchased a Raymarine A50D which comes with a transducer for the fishfinder.
I've been told that I can instaill the transducer inside the hull using silicon/epoxy to secure the transducer. I realize that I may lose some performance of the fishfinder due to the fact that the "transducer" is sending the signal throgh the fiberglass hull.
Will securing the transducer inside the hull even work? All help will be appreciated.

Thanks

We've had many a discussion about this in previous threads. Check out the links from around May 2011. I mounted my Garmin transducer near the bow to read as early as possible. It suffers a lil quality, but I'd sacrifice this to avoid drilling another hole in the hull. You can mount with a bracket on the stern transom too which is a lil silly, cause by the time U read shallow water, you'v already run over it! Try a few locations till U find one that works, but avoid the bilge area above the keel. The lead will totally block the signal. Good luck.
