I recntly purchased a 2003 44DS which is equipped with a Ray Marine GPS and experienced it failing, while cruising the Long Island Sound. I spoke to other Ray Marine users who have been experiencing the same problem. They, as well as tech suppot at Ray Marine said that the failure is due to an antennae problem, and that Ray Marine is coming out with a new antennae that is suppose to solve the problem. Has ayone else had similat problem, and if so, what have you been told? I'd appreciate any info possible. John Amato

Correct, Some Antennae Failures on Ray GPS

Their Tach Support will have some info for you. Mine had developed problems holding (and aquiring) satellites. After some diagnostic, they had me send it (the antenna) in for replacement. The new one seems to work fine. Rick D.

Rick, Are we talking antenna here, or the GPS receivers? Dan Jonas

The Antenna Itself, Dan.

I found out from another site participant. I was having the same symptoms. I contacted Raymarine via e-mail. They sent me the serial numbers affected and the expected failure profile. Swapped antennas and it's all well again. Rick D.

Consider trying a system reset

I was also having the same problem in the Long Island sound last summer. It happended to my unit on several occasions. I spoke at length with my installer and with Raymarine technicians. The Raymarine technician recommended trying a system reset before installing a new antenna. That seemed to clear up my problem (at least for now). They told me that the antenna's buffer gets full which causes it to malfunction. I recommend speaking with Raymarine technicians for further information.
