Hi all, Have been an avid reader of this site for years and have solved many an issue by reading the forum, but today I have had to post my first question, in the hope of working out what a solution to what should have been a simple fix ! We have a rather heavy vessel for a tiller (37' and 10 metric tons), however it's quite well balanced and she sails well on all points. Having said that, hanging onto the tiller all day when it's just a breeze (we are in the med...so either a gale or becalmed dde01) and the windvane will no work is not fun either. So, after much reading and thinking I saw that one could connect a tiller pilot to the windvane and so the issue of having such a heavy displacement vessel with a tiller, and no tiller pilots on the market that would handle the direct loads was solved....so I installed the Raymarine ST 4000 and connected to the Fleming windvane...see photo. Unfortunately, despite reading the book backwards and searching the web, I can't work out why the system continues to not learn... I repeatedly get a message that says..."fail 1" after a short learning attempt...and yes, the boat does enter a turn as the ram extents or contracts. Have changed the setting and retried the learning process with the system programmed to .. Workboat, sailboat, displacement boat... And no luck. The pilot system was set up without issue through the other startup processes..like setting the compass etc. Has anyone had this issue and found a solution ? Or any ideas ? Thanks in advance.
