Hi all. The other day my engine (universal 25) was running and I forgot to open raw water valve and I thought maybe I fried my empeller . Today I replaced empeller as I thought that may be my problem. But when I started to run engine I still was not getting water out of exhaust. What did I screw up. Any insight would be helpfull. Cheers

What did the old impeller look like? If it is missing a blade, or part of a blade, it may be stuck downstream in your heat exchanger or other parts of the cooling system and need to be removed.
I also recommend hanging the key to your engine on the handle of your raw water intake seacock. It'll remind you to open the valve before starting the engine.

I was surprised that no veins were damaged just a little bit of rubber came off. Can I open up the end cover of the heat exchanger. There is water at the empeller. Running it for those few minutes wouldn't cause much damage would it?

Is that the Oberdorfer with their name stamped on the outside? Yea, that won't work put on backwards. I have the same pump and I always thought it was pretty stupid for them to do that. Everyone else's pumps, when the cover gets worn you just flip it over.

yes it is the oberdofer. You would think that the company would want their name right side up. Good think I took a picture that showed me I had it upside down.

Depends on the application, that pump can be mounted on many different motors. The whole pump is upside down on a Universal. Actually I meant backwards with the name inside the pump. Upside down shouldn't matter, I think they're was some other reason it didn't seal and it did seal when you turned it over.

The newer Oberdorfer pumps do just that. For the older ones, like I have, all I have to do is lightly sand the inner face, no issues in 18 years.
