Hello- Is it necessary to install a raw water strainer in the head water intake line? I saw this recommended in an article for eliminating the odors that one gets from raw water. I'd rather not go to the trouble and expense if it's really not necessary. Thanks. Laura Bertran 1985 H31 #514 Rising Tide

Raritan makes a head intake strainer

The only one I know of that's reasonably priced. Check their website at http://www.raritaneng.com If your local yard doesn't have any, you can order it directly from Raritan by calling 800-352-5630. And yes, I'd say you definitely need one in the Bay...'cuz not only is it highly "organic," but you haven't ever experienced head intake odor until you've sucked up a sea nettle and trapped it in the channel in the rim of your toilet bowl!

Plastic strainers.

I installed one. If nothing else it will make you remember to keep the thru-hull closed. Nothing like two more connection points with plastic in between. :)

Got Strainer fr Raritan

I ordered and (almost) instantly received the raw water strainer from Raritan. Wow, what an efficient company. I'll be installing it and my new PH II toilet as soon as I finish painting the head. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts.
