Hi,

I have a Shurflo Raw water strainer going to my water pump for the air conditioner. It is small and the filter is constantly an issue because if falls apart. I have been looking for other options to replace the strainer. Right now I am making my own filter which works because it is made of much better stainless steel, but would like to get something that is not such a hassle. Does anyone know of another strainer/filter that I can replace this with? When I went into West Marine they were trying to sell me a strainer with a plastic filter with rather large holes. It would not work at all because the silt would just get through it and cause more issues. I have a 1994 35.5 Hunter Legend and the air conditioner works great but before I was making my own filter, I was having to replace the filters every 2 weeks and they are $25, which is just crazy since they don't last. I asked West Marine about it and they said they are made of good stainless steel. Well apparently not. The last one I took off and showed them, the seam was completely separated and holes all over the place. Any help would be appreciated.

Our 1991 boat came with dual heat pumps that was served by a single Perko brand bronze sea water strainer. It finally gave up due to corrosion after many years of service. The SS strainer basket was still in good condition, but the bronze cap bolts just corroded away. I replaced it a couple of years ago with the same product purchased from Amazon. I expect it will last a long as the original.

Are you having any issues with the filter falling apart? Does it last longer than a few weeks?
Ours is all still original after nearly 10 years, and it still feels as solid as ever when I take it out to clean it. To be fair we’re in water with very low salt content, so not the most rigorous testing, but it looks like a perfectly suitable stainless mesh.

So you know, those screen type filters aren't going to stop the "silt" that you mentioned. Which is probably a good thing, because a filter that stops too much may stop flowing altogether and maybe burn out your pump.

Hi, I bought the Sherwood Filter/strainer. I will say this is so much better quality than the one I had. I have installed it and love it. Thank you for sending me the information.

Hi, yes but the filter was falling apart within a couple weeks. I ordered the Sherwood filter/strainer and it is a huge difference in quality of the filter. It is the same as far as being 50 mesh but much better quality. I love this one. Still have to clean it but not falling apart. thanks
