Raw water pump question

I tried several. Two came with the boat when I bought it. They were both black and in a Universal package. I also ordered the blue one from Defender, hoping it might work. I think that is the run dry Globe brand. No luck with that one either. The new Oberdorfer pump came with a black impeller. That is the one that is installed now and working. I assume it is a Universal, but I suppose there may be other brands on the market that are also black.
It would be really nice if we could understand exactly why the pump failed. Can you look into the pump's intake and output and confirm that there are no broken impeller parts? These pumps are pretty simple- in my experience they either work or not. And every time I had a pump that didn't move water, either there was a plug in the system or the impeller was broken.
