I recently changed the impeller on my Fischer Panda generator on my Hunter 41. It only comes with one paper gasket and it did not seat correctly (my fault) and then once it gets wet, it's useless. My question is can you use some other type of gasket, such as "Form-A-Gasket" or something similar? Does this stuff which comes in a tube seal well and does it come off easily when it's time to do the job again? I hate the thought of buying another impeller replacement kit just to get the gasket. Any thoughts? This would also apply to any engine but in my case, my inquiry is limited to the genset. Also, does it matter which way the vanes are turned when you install the impeller? A delivery boat captain told me it doesn't matter, they will seat themselves properly once the engine is started.
