While replacing my thru hull and valve decided to replace raw water strainer too . When I look at my old one the the flow arrow on the strainer is facing in the wrong direction. Is it supposed to be this way for some reason I'm unaware of?

from the thru hull the water MUST go into the strainer basket first. the other side of the "top" will draw it from the outside of the basket. If the outside of the basket is trapping the weeds then you have it backward.
