raw water filter

1983 Catalina 27 with Universal Diesel (5411). Can anyone tell me if there is a filter at or near the T-fitting by the thru-hull fitting?

Should be down there somewhere...assuming you have one, which you should.

not on mine...

I have the 5411 without a filter - just a standard scoop strainer at the thru-hull - and its run fine since 1981!

Rob...you are lucky! My little filter catches all sorts of crud from my freshwater lake, that would have otherwise gone into the engine. I have the identical filter on my air conditioner intake.

So what I'm reading is that some 5411's of this vintage have a filter and some don't. Guess I'll dig in a see if mine does. I've owned the boat 4 years on an inland Texas lake with no trouble. We'll see.
