Hello, I have a 32' O'day center cockpit sailboat. My raw water discharge is at the stern. I find it a problem while motoring, to crawl over the aft-cabin to verify the engine is pumping water. I would like to move the discharge to the port side, near the steering station, so I can moniter the discharge without leaving the cockpit. Has anyone done this? Is there a reason why the manufacturer didn't? The boat is kept on a mooring, so discharging onto a dock won't be a problem. Thanks.

is there room?

what about the wet exhaust canister?do you have the room to put some sort of a loop in the hose prior to the exhaust thru hull? what about the heat generated? there might be a problem with ecessive distance with the hose run. is there room to have a clean run to where you'd like to see it install'd. theres some great boatyards in newport that could have a look see to let you know if its viable or not.

Won't it be buried on a starboard tack?

Rich: If you moved it wouldn't be buried when you are on a starboard tack. It is going to also add a LOT of back pressure if you are motor sailing on that tack too. I would have to agree that a over-limit buzzer and a gauge may be a better alternative. Just check for water discharge when you are warming up the engine and watch your gauge and listen for the buzzer.

There's a VERY good reason why ALL boats exhaust

through the transom: To keep exhaust fumes out of the cockpit and away from the boat. I'd leave it where it is if I were you.
