Raw water circuit for 32s5

I'm helping a friend setup her boat this spring. She is a sailor but has always had someone do the prep so she really doesn't know a lot about her boat from a systems standpoint?

Behind the engine I found what I believe is the thru-hull for the raw water pickup for the engine.

The hose does not seem to reach however. I'm thinking that the last "helper" disconnected it for winterizing and took a part off the boat. Like maybe a filter.
Does anyone know how this is supposed to be plumbed?

Most likely that hose would not come off the fitting and it was cut off, possibly a number of times over the years. The hose would be put into a bucket of anti-freeze to be pumped through the engine. I doubt there was a filter there as it would have been below the waterline.

I didn't think of this. So you are saying that it was not standard practice for Beneteau to put filters in that location?
I'm not interested in re-engineering anything. The boat is 20 years old, I just want to put it back together the way it was.
To support your theory every picture in the books shows it without a filter.

If it's like my B323, the other end of that hose should go to a water strainer(filter) located above the waterline (and maybe above the engine?) and the other side of the filter would go to the engine water pump.

So now I'm confused. Their is no raw water filter that I can see on this boat so I'm trying to figure out if the factory installed one and it was removed or if the hose was cut and it was never there.

As a side question I have a picture of the other end of the hose in the above pictures. It goes into a fitting below but part of the transmission. Is that for cooling, if so I would think that there would be some maintenance required.

In this picture the hose with the red tab at the top of the picture is the other end of the hose that almost makes it to the thruhull.
The hose at the bottom of the picture goes around the port side of the engine to the raw water pump.

It looks like your friend has a 2002 volvo 18 horse diesel. I have the same engine on
my first 285. with the same raw water intake. Either buy a longer hose or add a filter
I added the filter and i am glad i did. There is no maintenance at the transmission with the raw water The oil does need to be changed depending on usage. Good luck.
