Which sail boat would you buy first, given that all of them are in similar condition, 40 feet or so in length and priced exactly the same: Tayana, Ericson, Pearson, Pacific Sea Craft and C&C. Plans long range cruising.
Given your long range cruising plans and that all boats you listed as being similiar condition and priced the same.My choise would be hands down the Pacific Seacraft. Well built, highly respected boat. Will take you anywhere you want to go, including circumnavagation. Second choise would be the Tayana for the same reasons.Good luck in making your decision.
Bulletproof, as the brokers like to say. Only boat to go ashore at Diamondhead and survive. Perhaps more interesting to hear second choices in this list and why. Agree with Darryl, and Pearson might be my third.
Consider the Cheoy Lee Offshore 41, like this one.http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/pl_boat_full_detail.jsp?slim=quick&boat_id=1147561&units=Feet¤cy=USD&access=Public&listing_id=43386&url=Pat
The Pacific Seacraft is a very nice boat but rather spendy. Our 90 Island Packet 38 was the same price as the 92's to 94 PS. The tayana's are very simular at a greatly reduced price. The only problem with the first two is that they are rather cramped inside as compared to the Pearsons and C
I met an owner or said that his PS pulled a pilling up out of the bottom during a storm while tied to the dock. Only cosmetic damage to the boat. The storm surge destroyed several other boats at the same dock. My brother had a PS 25 that performed very well in the open ocean. We have a Pearson 323 that we are happy with but if we had the money we would have a PS.
