Hi everyone, this is Mike, owner of 'Juniata', Rasmus 35 no 101. I wish to fit a secondary forestay (generally called an emergency forestay) so that I can furl the genoa and fly a working or smaller jib in brisk conditions. Has anyone done this and have any experience/good tips to pass on ? What about sail area for this heavy jib for winds 20-25 knots....any thoughts ? Season's greetings, Mike Mills

I added a solent stay to my Monsun when I added roller furling. I contacted HR for advice and they told me where I could attach the stay on the mast without adding running back stays. I added a fitting to the stem for the deck attachment. It is not parralel, but I keep it out of the way and use it only for the purpose you have in mind, or with a drifter. I had advice from Port Townsend sails re the solent stay vs a short "baby stay". It's agood idea. Hal Smith.

Hal, thanks for you response. To keep clear of the roller furling I had hoped to tack the stay down to a point behind the anchor locker. To check this plan I have emailed HR as you suggest. Mike Mills
