I just received a new Raritan Hot Water Heater today via UPS. It has both the heat exchanger and electric heating option. I opened the box to view my new high priced wonder and I see that it appears to require that I add four external plumbing connections before I can attach any hoses. Has anyone on this board recently installed one of these and if so, what kind of connections do I need to install before I can attach hoses to my high priced technological heating marvel? Thanks, Greg W.

You'll find the answer on page 3 in the manual

that should have been in the box with the water heater. If it's missing you can download and print one from the Raritan website: http://www.raritaneng.com/products/water_heaters/index.html If you can't figure out what you need from the manual, give Vic Willman at Raritan a call: 800-352-5630 x 6. You should be able to find most of the parts you need at Lowes or Home Depot.

Thanks Peggie

Peggie: Thanks for the information. I previously glanced through the owners manual but I didn't see anything specific to what was needed. I will take a second look! Greg W. De Pere, WI.

Greg...

I just replaced the water heater on my H34 last weekend (sorry Peggy, another brand fit better). The connections are all basically the same. The threaded connectors (for the water lines) are usually 3/4 inch FPT. Take the opportunity to install a by-pass kit to make it easier to winterize next fall. Engine heat exchanger hose connections on my new heater are 5/8 inch hose barbs. Be sure to identify the water hose from the engine thermostat area connection as the engine hose into the heat exchanger, and the one leading back to the water pump as the water out of the heat exchanger if they are marked as such on the Raritan.

I've had several tank-less heaters.

They all ran off of propane. Some where very large, some too small. And one was actually designed for boats. All had one thing in common; poor temperature control. Either too hot or too cold. But manufactures keep trying. I haven't tried any of the less-than-ten-year old models. I've also had the round Raritan heater. I found that it used the most boat space for the least amount of water capacity of any heater. (round tanks do that) Now I have a box heater with engine heat and 110V. Works well for two people on the hook.
