Ranger 65

Hello,

My name is Ola and I am writing from Sweden. I have found a really nice boat for sale here in Sweden called Ranger 65. However, I can't find any information about this boat, and I really would like to find out more about possible weak points before I buy the boat. The only information I have is the following: the boat was built in 1965, the body/hull is made of polyester, the exterior is in teak-wood and the interior is made of mahogany. I believe it's a Rhodes Ranger.

You can find a fair bit of info online if you Google that name.

Often seen here in the Pacific Northwest. Never sailed one, but a pretty decent reputation I believe. Due to the design age, a bit small inside, but a nice sailor.

Thanks a lot, that really helped a lot. It definitely looks like a Rhodes Ranger. Never heard of that boat, but you have a lot of really nice boats that we never heard of here in Sweden (or Europe).

By the way what does 85,000 equate to in dollars?

I can't help, Ola, but it is interesting and unique to have the mast compression load taken by an arch in the cabin! Reminds me of a folkboat with more cabin .. Outboard power in a well.. A boat that has been well kept up for sure!

85,000 Swedish Kroner = ~$12,000

I really good forum this - thanks for all your help! Yes, it could be a Pearson Triton, it is very difficult to tell by the pictures. And yes, 85000 SEK is about $12000, but the the dollar is rather cheap at the moment, and the boat has dropped in price from around $15000 in the last couple of months. I think most people here are rather conservative and rather reluctant to buy an 'unusual' boat. Buit i really like the design

Here is a website with a VERY complete and detailed description of the restoration of a Triton.

There looks to be a close resemblance to the Alberg 30 which is still well known here in Canada.

It is not a Pearson Triton if it is not fractional rig and if it does not have an inboard engine.
Also the cove stripe is not that of a Pearson Triton Can you find the hull number?The first letters are the manufacturer.

The cove stripe is that of a Rhodes. There are other pictures of a Rhodes Ranger on the web and sure looks like a twin.

The American made Ranger sailboats I have raced against (in my 1967 Tartan 27') have been quite competitive and seem to sail very well. I imagine that this boat was also well made.
I am not that fond of outboard motors but that is a matter of choice.
It comes with a trailer I believe = +1
New mast and boom = +1
How old are the sails?

Since there are a lot of older boats available here in the US I would guess that the owner of this boat would be lucky to get $10K.

Yes, but the boat is in Sweden. I think that she appears to be in great condition and is a beauty. If you haven't gone to see her you should. That will tell you a lot about whether you are still interested as well as whether her shiny topsides are just lipstick or if she is truly well maintained. Boats of that era are typically quite heavily built, from a fiberglass perspective. Appears to be a newer mast. Check to be sure that her chain plates are sound. Ideally they would have been replaced with the mast.
