Ranger 29 0 Vancouver
Hello,

I recently got a Ranger 29 and needs some fixing up. One such things are the windows, which are starting to leak.
Ideally I would like to install new frames and a new window.
Problem is I am having difficulty finding anyone that makes windows that are curved to fit the bend on my cabin wall.

My options seem to be either re-bed the old windows OR scrap the old frames and install some bare plexi/acrylic/etc. OR locate someone who can make me some new frames to replace the old ones. (Fourth option is build up the deck area around the openings to have a flat surface so I could install a new Bomar/Lewmar/etc. styled window, this option is probably beyond my current skill set)

My question to you fine Ranger folk: Have you replaced the windows on your boats and how did you go about it? Are there any portlight/window manufacturers I may have missed that can create a frame for a curved opening?

Thanks,
Bjorn

I'm a former R29 owner but I didn't have leaking windows.
I'd probably go with the rebed option. If the windows can't be removed without damaging them you could template the openings and have a glass place fabricate windows out of acrylic. That's your insurance policy. I did that on the boat I had before the Ranger.
Finding a boat window fabricator for a boat that's around 50 years old is going to be difficult. Jensen Marine and it's parent company Bangor Punta are gone. They built Cal's, O Days, and Rangers as well as Smith & Wesson guns
& Piper airplanes (Wikipedia Sourced). Maybe you can chase down one of those sailboat brands to find the manufacturer of the windows - likely outsourced. It's a long shot. Even if they still exist it's likely they've moved on to more contemporary methods.

One possible source is a guy in So Cal. I called him a couple of years ago.. I remember him sayin the worked on Cal boats back in the day. He produces windows for replacement. He may be able to help you.

Here is his info I found online. Number may or may not work.

D&R Marine might be able to help you out. O'Day has very similar windows. Probably the same manufacturer. Exact replacements are $500/pr from D&R. Use 4200 or 4000UV to rebed. Your's looks like it has the same lip that makes butyl a bad idea for these windows. They will be very brittle. Can you snap a pic of the inside?
