Islander/Wayfairer 30 sail number 25 Perryville,Md.
I am sorry but I just had to do this:

The id is responsible for our basic drives such as food, sex, and aggressive impulses. It is amoral and egocentric, ruled by the pleasure–pain principle; it is without a sense of time, completely illogical, primarily sexual, infantile in its emotional development, and will not take "no" for an answer. It is regarded as the reservoir of the libido or "love energy". This explains why it sometimes seems like our boat is trying to kill us. On a serious note before there were hull identification numbers each manufacturer assigned a number to the hull to mark its place in the line of production. so you have hull number 12 of a production run of many.

Your O'Day is probably the original hull #2 off the line.

Back in the '60s and '70s, many sailboat manufacturers numbered their hulls starting with #10. This was because they figured nobody would want the initial boats off the line and thought that the boat buyer would think any bugs would have been worked out by hull #10. Grampian Marine in Oakville built many O'Day boats back in the late '60s.

if that's the case Jim.....

then his boat would have been #3! 10 - 11 - 12 = 1 - 2 - 3 Regarding the hull I.D. question: Try comparing that number to the info on your boat registration document. Your insurance company will require information that specifically identifies the boat.... like the vehicle identification number for you car. Every vessel has a unique identification number, just like a car.
