Raising the Boom

I am having a dodger and bimini measured up and it seems the boom will make both not as tall as I would like. Has anyone raised the boom on there 37C? I saw an older post by Ed that suggested raising the boom to the upper bolt holes on the mast. Any thoughts?

H37C boom height.

I know that several owners have made the mod to raise the boom, I never did. THe only problem that I had with the original Island Nautical dodger was at rest. I solved that problem by making the topping lift easily adjustable. That by installing a spare halyard and connecting it to the topping lift. When I made the bimini I adjusted the frame so that my son-in-law(6'4") can stand comfortably at the helm. But the forward frame is lower for boom clearance.

Another idea

have about 4" taken off the bottom end of the main and tapering back to the existing level of the gooseneck. lots of people do it that way.

I wouldn't

I would never artificially raise the boom, and thus increase the 'tipsy factor', for the world. Mr Schenk is most correct in raising it only at the dock and leaving it where is is supposed to be under way. I have a lot of sympathy for taller yachtsmen but sacrificing sailing performance for increased headroom under a dodger or Bimini that is going to hamper performance anyway is not a good trade-off in my book.
