Hello All, Hope everyone is in the water ready for an exciting season! I have a H 336 1995. I tried raising the jib this Spring, and it was almost impossible to do it. It required so much energy, I thought something was going to break. I took the sail off and then just raised the drum (profurl) which pulls the jib up. It went up fine. However, when I add the sail to the drum, it just does not move past the half mark. One of my friends looked at it and according to him the bearings of the drum are gone. The drum does not slide up the stay evenly when the weight of the sail is on it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any help is greatly appreciated. Amir

Maby clean the foil?
Is the foil or exrusion dirty? Maby wipe it down with a rag and some cleaner, how about lube, maby some sail friendly lube will help move it up, just a thought there.

Exact problem past 2 years here on 1995 h336. Had the luff tape replaced on the jib this year and same problem. See link, ProFurl says swivel is built to last and needs no maintanence. Even used a 2 foot piece of the old luff tape to run up the foil to clean it. Maybe someone else has found a fix.

New Jib?
If the sail is new, then the luff tape (rib) is probably large and need to be lubed to get it up the foil. A libricant should do the job and the luff tape will "reduce" in size by the end of the season. The same may be effective for an older sail. But try to clean the track first.

jib sheave?
The other suggestion are great, but I also had a problem where the jib sheave was messed up and would jam once there was a certain amount of weight on it. My jib would slide up and down easily by hand ( I could almost push it up!), but would require tremendous effort to pull by halyard. Chris

336 jib problem
Amir, Chuck ahoy! I also have a 95 336 and I do believe we are a very small group here since our boat was only made for three years. Amir, I havent had that problem BUT I think I have had most every other one over the last three years. I think it is either your drum bearings or as mentioned the jib sheave at the mast. On a side note, would you guys maybe be interested in exchanging email perhaps, so if we have 336 related questions, we could see what each other think? Maybe even try to find some other owners. Jib problems
What I found is that when I lubricated the swivel with some McLube, it got easies to hoist the jib. However, it was not enough to take it all the way. I will now take off the sail from the swivel and tie a line to the swivel. I will put some tension on this line and then try to pull the swivel up with the halyard. Lets see what happens. I talked to the profurl dealer. According to him if the bearings are gone, there should be graese/oil dripping from the swivel. In my case that has not happened. His guess is that the bushing in the swivel is gone. Oh well!

Amir, try this
Take your topping lift halyard and raise your drum up as far as you can. Now hook your jib halyard straight to the head of the jib and try raising it feeding the luff in the guide as you go. If it works, this should eliminate the jib sheave and the luff tape as culprits. You should be able to get the jib up most of the way. Cheers

I helped a dock mate with the same problem.
His boat is a Beniteau, though the same problem may be happening with your boat. During winter storage his halyard had twisted around the forstay above the top of the furler. It was hard to see from the deck, but right before going up in a bosun's chair we got out the binoculars and saw the problem. Once we untwisted it, the jib went right up. P.S. my last boat was also a 1995 H336. GREAT BOAT!!!!
