Does anyone know how to raise the boom on a First 310? Cockpit floor to bottom of boom is 66 inches and I want to add a bimini high enough for a 6 foot person to stand.

Dont think it can be done

I don't think it can be done. At least not without some major modifications and loss of performance. Not only would you have to raise the gooseneck you'd also need to have the main recut to fit the new area. We had a F310 and also had a bimini. We had a smaller version with the forward end just short of the boom. While it didn't provide full shade for the cockpit it did do a nice job of keeping the helm area shaded. I'll try to find a picture of it in my archives.

Bimini Photo

Hi Mike: Thanks for your patience in posting the photo of the bimini. It gives me some additional ideas. Once I find a solution, I'll post the results.

F310 Bimini

I might be possible to use a flatening reef in the main and then shake it out when you fold the bimini for racing. You may not get a full 6' at the companion way but you could at the helm that way. Good luck. First 310 is a great boat especially with a deep keel and plenty of rail weight.

310 Bimini

Thanksfor the info and photos. I am looking into a Bimini Butler that will allow the bimini in front of the wheel to be raised up to 17 inches when docked. I'll post what the final results are. My fallback at this point is a tall bimini as in the photos behaind the wheel, and a flattening reef to buy as much headroom as possible with a second bimini in front of the wheel that I can fold down when racing. Thanks again.
