I purchased a used 13' Escape Rumba last spring and sailed it this summer. Lots of fun!
I'm tall and one problem I found is the boom is too low for me to comfortably duck under. The boom on an Escape is not attached to the mast, but rather is a separate steel tube that bends down and attaches to a swivel pin under the deck. Only the clew of the sail is attached to the boom.
What do you think about raising the boom 4" by having a section of tube welded into the vertical portion of the boom? When raised 4" about 2" of the sail would touch the boom. How do you think raising the boom would affect the sailing characteristics?
