Rain water leak through rudder post

I have a significant rain water leak that seeps under the rudder post cap and into the bilge on my C30. Does the post cap keep the rudder in place or can I remove it without fear of the rudder falling from the bottom of the boat? Also, is the nylon washer that is located underneath the rudder post cap intended to be a seal as well as a bearing? Where can I get a new one?Any advice appreciated.Thanks,David Revill

Hi Dave had the same problem but a easy fix is to use some caulking to make a ridge across befor the water can get to the nylon bushing.The ridge will direction the water to the floor of the cockpit
