Rain water in main lazarette

I'm getting a few inches of rain water in the large port side lazarette (aka sail locker) every time we get a heavy rain. I've been told the solution is to add or replace the seal. Does anyone know what the proper thickness is? PO put a 1/2-3/4" on there but I doubt it's making contact with the lid

My C36 has no seals. There is a groove around the lid of the lazarette where the lid rests. It is a gutter to direct the water to the floor of the cockpit. If someone has put a seal in this groove, this would explain why water enters the lazarette. The fix is to remove the seal so that the water is directed away from entering the lazarette.
When the engine is running the lid vibrates at some resonant frequency. The seal was put in there to keep the lid from viberating.:banghead:

My 93 C30 also does not have a seal around the lid of the sail locker.
After a lot of spring rain I did find several inches of water in the locker. I sealed the screws for the hinges and cleaned out the dirt that accumulated in gutters of the locker. I cleaned all the dirt out and haven't found water in the locker since.

I agree with Joe.

The PO put the seal there to keep the vibrations down IIRC. I suspect would could be getting through the hinge, traveling down the back of the lid and dripping into the compartment when it reaches the bend. This would explain why the open battery box towards the front of the compartment had no water in it.

The lip around this compartment seems too high for water to get into the compartment

Thanks @Ward H and thank you for providing some info on the C30 mailing list as well. I will take a look at the screws. We've been having Florida style rain lately. I pulled a little more than 4 gallons out last time
