Magma Party Size....

First year with Magma Grill and love it! Not a big fan of grilling over the stern rail. We are primarily day sailors, and grill at the dock when we get back into the slip. Just recently I started hanging the grill off the bow, and stand right on the dock to play chef. A couple of dislikes: The regulator connection to the gooseneck to the bottom of the grill. I have had the propane bottle drop off twice, unexpectedly. Not during my cooking time, but during the cool down time afterwards. Once was into the drink, and had to fish the bottle out of the river. And the other item is the spin on handle. I have to back off the handle almost to the last thread in order to remove the mounting bracket. I don't think a cap nut will allow enough room for removal. Just have been lucky and have not had to watch the suicide. I am glad we have the party size, any smaller size and it would be tough to cook for party of four or more.

LP Magma

LP!! Magma We use our LP Party Kettle weekly and have found it very well made and reliable. Ours stays mounted on the stern rail within easy reach of the stern rail seat (I keep a cold drink in the drink holder just in case of a flair up...ha) We purchased a cover from this site which fits very well and does not look too bad. Hints: Buy a smoker box from your local Home Depot or Grill store that is designed for wood chips (aprox 6"L x 4"w x 1.5'h). Fill this box with your favorite wood chips and place on top of burner. It fits well and adds fantastic flavor. This box will also tame the heat and make cooking chicken much easier. We have a second LP tank in the LP locker that has a hose with the Magma LP regulator on the end. To grill we just uncoil the hose, plug regulator into bottom of grill, turn tank on, and light!

magna bad in high winds

I have a magna and it works great if sheltered from the wind but if there is any wind it loses heat so fast that you can't do a good job of grilling anything that needs high temp.

I Love my Magma

I've had my Magma Propane for at least eight years and two boats. We just returned from three weeks in the Bahamas with five souls on board and we used the grill about every other night. I've never had a problem and I Love it. Plenty of room to cook for five and it still amazes me how well it heats up and how quickly it cooks. I leave my grill on the stern rail all the time with a draw string bag made out of sail cover material which holds the lid in place in rough weather. I've never used a force 10 but I know you can't go wrong with the Magma!

Force 10 vs Dickinson

I've used 2 Force 10 on 2 different boats, the small and the large size, like others I wanted to buy the best for the dollar and I asked around, people that had only Force 10 liked them, people that had only Dickinson, loved them, people that whad Force 10 and went to Dickinson were excited about the Dickinson. So I bought a Dickinson, large size, it was fantastic, never had problem with it, cooked faster and hotter. It was damaged in a storm and I have to replace it and I will with the small one, cause the large size is very huge, unless you have partys of 6 and 8 people onboard all the time. André

Magma on second decade

Grabbed the Magma from the cockpit locker for a meal on the water this spring and discovered black debris falling out before the cover was removed. Meal turned out OK - BUT what a mess. Hauled the grill off the dock upon returning and was about to make a deposit in the waste container when the thought of possible resurrection came through. A trip home, bronze brushing, clearners, and elbow grease returned the stainless to its original luster. Another ten years of great grilling ahead.
