I saw in one of the Sailing Magazine (sail, Lats and Atts, etc) a pair of stainless steel L shape bar for holding a kayak along the stanchions. The advertisement was for some other product with a small picture of these supports. I can not find the issues that it was in. Does anyone out there know who makes these? Thanks for the help.

do they work well?

Anyone have any experience with using these? Dumb question but do they mount on the outside of the lifeline or where do they mount? Do they work well?

Thanks for the information

They have been ordered. My finger neighbor (who is never there) would be happy to be able to walk to the end of the finger. I guess you could put them on either side of the life line. I am planning to put mind on the outside when in use and moving them to inside for storage during long journeys and big seas. I will comment later if they work out.

I have two

We have two kayaks on the boat, and use the Garhauer kayak racks. They work great, but we did find two issues to keep in mind when using the racks. The first was the placement. We opted to place the kayaks on the outside (and most people we saw who used the racks were doing the same). Having the kayaks on the outside keeps the deck clear. However, when placed too far forward, the kayaks interferred with the jib sheets. We had to mount the racks aft. The kayaks cover the lifeline gates, but it was a better option. The second thing to remember is to always tie your kayaks down even if the kayak feels snug in the rack. I found out the hard way that they look secure, but a good gust will lift them right out of the rack. Overall, we have been very happy with the racks. Sure beats having two kayaks on the deck.

Thanks for the heads up Rick!

Hi Rick, thanks for the heads up. That would help offset that extra battery on the starboard side by putting the kayak forward on the port side. Jack

make them!

Go out and buy some aluminum flatbar, and bend it. It can be bent with some difficulty but cut fairly easily. I made a bike rack for my Catalina 30 out of it. I was going to start a company selling them but I'm too lazy. Cheers, -Rob
