Rail bracket for a spare 10hp

I am planning on doing a cruise for 5 weeks from Carrabelle to the Florida Keys. I own a 10hp 4 stroke and a 10hp 2 stroke. I would like to carry a backup kicker motor as we will be doing this trip in the first week of June and the wind often is nowhere to be found in that month. I would be trying to mount it on the back rail of an Oday 25.

Any ideas?

Just bring the best of the two engines with you, your VHF radio and your tow insurance card. We have sailed the Keys, the Chesapeake Bay, Potomac River, the Long Island Sound, the Outer Banks and other choice locations on our trailerable Starwind 222 with our 80's model Nissan 2 stroke 9.9HP. We do have it serviced and tuned prior to a trip and take with us the usual spare parts. We have had our share of ocurrences like breaking the starter pull cord as we entered a channel but the worst was getting dismasted and loosing our prop on the same trip. Towboat US, "Toe Jam", saved the day and a fellow sailor drove us to WM where we purchased the needed hardware to be able to install the old spare prop and make Baltimore before sundown. Taking two engines sounds like an overkill. There is usually some wind to be found on the Keys.

On my Mac 25 I used to hook my 8 hp Nissan dink motor to the transom ladder. It was secure and out of the way.
I had the same Honda 100 you have and it was a pretty reliable motor. I only had to clean the carburetor annually. The bowl is made of cast aluminum and it use to form some white salt chrystals that would plug the jets, especially if not run for a while. The carb is easy to change out and if you want some insurance you might want to carry and extra carb. They are only about $40. I use to carry and extra prop and shear pins. Never needed the prop but I went through my share of shear pins.

Our Honda is super reliable but I would feel much better knowing I would not need a tow unless I went through two very reliable motors.

I think that is a lot of weight on your rail. You may need to some reinforcing.

Boat US Unlimited towing package is only $120 or thereabouts...don't leave home port without it. My premiums for 6 years have been paid back 5 times over sailing Chesapeake Bay.
